Can’t quite describe the feelings that rush through me every time I come across this poem. The first time I chanced upon it was when I went rummaging my mom’s poem collection to find a suitable piece for the recitation competition in school. And I did! I remember I had instantly fallen in love with its idea of freedom and liberty, and pictured myself as a free bird taking to the air.

I think thats the beauty of art and literature - the interpretation lies in the perspective of observer. (Can’t get simpler than that). Some pieces of literature tend to have that impact on us, leaving an impression, permanent or momentary. Guess this is one such for me - permanent AND momentary.

That just gave me an idea. How about compiling the names of all the inspirational books I’ve come across….? I mean, start with books and then move on to poetry, movies, music… Hmmm…should be fun going back to all those authors and ideas that filled many of us with enthusiasm. Thoughts and themes that held insights, influenced…or simply inspired.

Will do that soon.

STAGES OF DEATH AND DYING

Dying is a process, the end point of which is death. In this sense dying is a terminal part of living. The coping responses during this particular segment of life are shaped by previous experiences with death, as well as by cultural attitudes and beliefs. There are five stages that patients pass through from the time they first become aware of their fatal prognosis to their actual death:

1. Denial

On being told that one is dying, there is an initial reaction of shock. The patient may appear dazed at first and may then refuse to believe the diagnosis or deny that anything is wrong. Some patients never pass beyond this stage and may go from doctor to doctor until they find one who supports their position.

2. Anger

Patients become frustrated, irritable and angry that they are sick. A common response is,” Why me? ” They may become angry at God, their fate, a friend, or a family member. The anger may be displaced onto the hospital staff or the doctors who are blamed for the illness.

3. Bargaining

The patient may attempt to negotiate with physicians, friends or even God, that in return for a cure, the person will fulfill one or many promises, such as giving to charity or reaffirm an earlier faith in God.

4. Depression

The patient shows clinical signs of depression- withdrawal, psychomotor retardation, sleep disturbances, hopelessness and possibly suicidal ideation. The depression may be a reaction to the effects of the illness on his or her life or it may be in anticipation of the approaching death.

5. Acceptance

The patient realizes that death is inevitable and accepts the universality of the experience. Under ideal circumstances, the patient is courageous and is able to talk about his or her death as he or she faces the unknown. People with strong religious beliefs and those who are convinced of a life after death can find comfort in these beliefs

Mothers learn how to deal with theft among your children.

Dear worried mothers, parenting is like an exploration in wilderness you can never know the terrains that lie ahead until you reach there, it is clear from what you have revealed that you have done your best, yet your efforts are not yielding much results.
Frustrating as it is, stealing does not mean that your child is not bad or that you have failed as a parent. It is a parenting child that you can deal with only if you understand its roots

How to overcome it
· Developing an intimate relationship with her. You can’t influence a child who hates or fears you.
· You can mention that stealing is wrong without branding her a thief” calling a thief might make it worse. Look for opportunities to compliment her because humiliating her self esteem too.
· Work hand in hand with her teachers so that they help her instead of punishment.
· Help her draw closer to God. its only the fear of God that can keep her behavior in check all the time.
· Incase of more difficulties see a professional counselor.
· Continue loving her because the mother’s love has the potential of taming the wildest of the children.


You are like a porter with clay in hands and the word will judge by the quality of your work

Loneliness

Loneliness builds from the very inside of us rather than from the outside, it may be triggered by some saddening events, death, divorce, join loss…

Overcoming it
· Bestir yourself by doing the positive things like calling someone on a phone, writing letters, reading books, invite a friend have an interchange of ideas
· Show yourself friendly to have friends
· Reach into yourself to reach out to others
· Do anything reflecting happiness, exaggerate it, over do it to win happy thoughts.
· Always put meaning into your life f not wi lack the will to live.

How to cope up with it?

· Seek medical treatment fro professional doctors
· Open up your feelings, share your problems with a friend, relative or even your management.
· Putting your feelings into words is a healing process that presents your mind from trying to deny the reality of the problem or loss and hence leaving this unresolved.
· Avoid the sense of false pride while depressed.
· Contend with feelings of low self-esteem while fighting depression.

Are you depressed?

A depressed person finds it difficult to perform even the most routine tasks such as getting dressed, brushing teeth, preparing breakfast and making routine decisns. E.g a depressed woman whose friend was late for an appointment became convinced that the friend no longer liked, and that in fact she was unlikable, so the thoughts of the depressed patient are ruled by negative views of the world- the cognitive triad of depression”
Depressed people exaggerate minor obstacles into impossible barriers, consider themselves stupid or hopelessly incompetent and see the future as only full of more painful failures.

How to pass a job interview?

· Be grown up businesslike, greet employer with respect, call him Mr. not Jack, Buddy, Paul, Charlie etc.
· Sit up straight in a chair; feet firmly on floor; look alert
· Think before answering a question, be polite, honest and frank.
· Have a guide sheet with you, listing all jobs, dates of work, wages, kinds of work you did, reasons you left.
· Be ready to show how your training and work experience will help you to get ahead on job you are asking for.
· Be confident, enthusiastic, but do not bluff, use good English and speak distinctly, do not talk too much
· Listen carefully; be polite and tactful above all do not get into any arguments with your prospective employer.
· The employer is only interested in only how well you will fit the job. Do not mention personal, home or money problem.
· If it seems you may not get a job, seek employer’s advice about other jobs that may come up with in the firm
· Send employer brief thank you letter immediately after interview.

Sometimes we just need to be reminded!

A well-known speaker started off his seminar by: holding up a $20.00 bill. In the room of 200, he asked, 'Who would like this $20 bill?' Hands started going up. He said, 'I am going to give this $20 to one of you but first, let me do this. He proceeded to crumple up the $20 dollar bill. He then asked, 'Who still wants it?' Still the hands were up in the air. Well, he replied, 'What if I do this?' And he dropped it on the ground and started to grind it into the floor with his shoe. He picked it up, now crumpled and dirty. 'Now, who still wants it?' Still the hands went into the air. My friends, we have all learned a very valuable lesson. No matter what I did to the money, you still wanted it because it did not decrease in value. It was still worth $20. Many times in our lives, we are dropped, crumpled, and ground into the dirt by the decisions we make and the circumstances that come our way. We feel as though we are worthless. But no matter what has happened or what will happen, you will never lose your value. Dirty or clean, crumpled or finely creased, you are still priceless to those who DO LOVE you. The worth of our lives comes not in what we do or who we know, but by WHO WE ARE and WHOSE WE ARE. You are special - Don't EVER forget it.' If you do not pass this on, you may never know the lives it touches, the hurting hearts it speaks to, or the hope that it can bring. Count your blessings, not your problems. 'And remember: amateurs built the ark .. professionals built the Titanic. If God brings you to it - He will bring you through it.

This is a simple test: THE POEM I knelt to pray but not for long, I had too much to do. I had to hurry and get to work For bills would soon be due. So I knelt and said a hurried prayer, And jumped up off my knees. My Christian duty was now done My soul could rest at ease..... All day long I had no time To spread a word of cheer No time to speak of Christ to friends, They'd laugh at me I'd fear. No time, no time, too much to do, That was my constant cry, No time to give to souls in need But at last the time, the time to die. I went before the Lord, I came, I stood with downcast eyes. For in his hands God! held a book; It was the book of life. God looked into his book and said "Your name I cannot find I once was going to write it down... But never found the time"

A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas. He said the expression "going bananas" is from the effects of bananas on the brain.
